LITTLE BITSY
Rescued Brevard dog, a semifinalist in $1million contest Once near starvation with a shattered leg resulting from a hit/run accident, Little Bitsy has just become one of the 12 weekly $500 winners in a national Cutest Dog Competition.
Wanting to give other homeless animals the same second chance that she has had, Little Bitsy is designating any of her winnings to Animal Rescue in Western North Carolina. The $500 she has already won will pay for shots and spay/neutering for 10 dogs or cats, making them attractive for adoption.
When Little Bitsy was found by local animal lover, Evelyn Bridges, it was indicated that the injured leg would have to be amputated, but the dog’s malnourished condition was such that surgery was not possible. A temporary home was located where she could be cared for until healthy enough for the amputation. Little Bitsy seized the opportunity. She put on weight, began using the crippled leg, was soon chasing her ball and running, and not only was the need for surgery overcome, but also Little Bitsy so endeared herself that the “temporary home” has become her own forever home.
Mrs. Bridges and her associated volunteers have been using their own funds to pay for shots and spay/neutering, then finding homes for homeless animals. They are in the process of setting up a non-profit agency, Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue. Currently, contributions for their rescue efforts may be made to the Charlie Powers Memorial Animal Rescue Fund, c/o Steve Owen & Associates, 49 Pisgah Highway, Pisgah Forest NC 28768.
